HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team earned a decisive three-sets-to-none victory over Hilbert on Tuesday evening, cruising to its second victory of the young season.
The Soaring Eagles (2-3) overpowered the Hawks (0-5) from the opening serve, taking the first set 25-9. EC kept its foot on the gas the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-7 before polishing the match off with another 25-9 showing.
Elmira's serving played a large role in the Purple and Gold's performance as they racked up 20 aces against the Hawks.
Natalie Schieder '19 led the barrage from behind the service line with a team-high seven aces. Sophomore
Lydia Milligan '21 added five while
Kasey Campbell '19 finished the night with four aces.
Second-year standout
Lauren Smith '21 paced EC's offense to the tune of six kills while chipping in with two aces.
Kelsey Lofvenborg '22 floored four kills while
Tiara John '19 chipped in with three kills and a team-high nine digs.
Taylor Kaznowski '19 orchestrated Elmira once again, pulling the strings on offense with 10 assists.

- Elmira's 20 services marks the second-straight time the Soaring Eagles have recorded 20 aces against the Hawks after they did so in last season's 3-0 win over Hilbert (9/16).
- With the win, Elmira improves to 5-0 all-time against Hilbert.
- Kaznowski's 10 assists marks the 88th –straight match that the senior has recorded double-digit assists.
- Both of Elmira's wins this season have come in straight sets.

The Soaring Eagles head to Oswego, New York for the two-day Oswego State Invitational. The tournament starts this Friday, September 14, when the Purple and Gold face D'Youville at 6:00 p.m. and St. Lawrence at 8:00 p.m.. The following afternoon, EC will battle the host Lakers at 11:00 a.m. before closing the tournament with a 1:00 p.m. match against SUNY Canton.
