CAZENOVIA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's cross country team earned a ninth-place finish out of 11 teams at the Cazenovia College Homecoming Invitational, an eight-kilometer race hosted by the Wildcats on Saturday.
The Soaring Eagles placed two runners inside the top 25.
Owen Rose '22 was tops among the Purple and Gold, as the freshman was 11th among the competitive field of 101 runners. Rose was clocked with a time of 31:09.06, a mere three seconds shy of a second consecutive top-10 finish. In 25th place was
Jeremy Best '19, as the senior from Wexford, Pennsylvania, ran the 8K course in 32:25.40.
Jarritt Himmelreich '19, a fourth-year distance runner from nearby Horseheads, New York, finished 57th with a time of 34:44.00. Graduate student
Jonathan Muller '18 ran a 37:10.90, good enough for 73rd. Elmira's pack of six was rounded out by
Matt Straney '20 (39:47.50) in 83rd and
Justin Gillule '19 (41:21.10) in 90th place.
EC amassed 205 team points, just eight shy of Mohawk Valley Community College in eighth place. Le Moyne College, a Division II institution, won the race with 42 points, edging runner-up Royal Military College by two points.
