HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer fell in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 7-0 decision to the Highlanders of Houghton College.
EC moved to 2-13 overall with a 0-6-0 mark in conference play, while Houghton improved to 7-7-2 with a 2-3-1 record in E8 action.
The Soaring Eagles were forced to dig in defensively as Houghton dictated the game flow through the center of the park. The Highlanders peppered Purple and Gold with 19 shots, 12 of which found their way on frame.
Cassidy Buchman '22 got the start in goal and made four saves in a little over 31 minutes of action.
Ally Knorr-Anderson '23 relieved Buchman and registered one save in 58:52 of game time.
The Highlanders set the tone as earlier, as the hosts struck for a pair of goals in the opening 12 minutes. EC looked to have a response in the 27th minute, but
Marygrace Nichols '22 saw her scoring chance get snuffed out by Houghton's Rachel Fortney.
Elmira enjoyed more possession in the second half but was unable to generate many chances. Junior
Zoya Katta '21 fired off a shot in the 65th minute, but the attempt just missed the crossbar. EC had another chance in the 75th minute, as rookie
Kaitlyn Bickham '21 lined up a shot. The Newfield, New York, native put her laces through the ball, but the shot missed high, as Houghton's defense saw out the remainder of the contest.
