PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- A six-point effort by
Kelsie Aloi '21 fueled an offensive outburst and led the Elmira College field hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Lancaster Bible College on Sunday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center.
After coming up on the short end of three consecutive 1-0 decisions, the Soaring Eagles (5-5) produced their second-highest scoring output of the season against the Chargers (3-7). Elmira outshot Lancaster Bible by a significant margin, 23-to-1, and had a 10-to-1 advantage in penalty corners. It's just the second time this fall that the Soaring Eagles finished with the lead in both categories.
Aloi recorded her second multi-goal game of the year with two goals and two assists. Classmate
Janie Kempf '21 also deposited a pair of goals, while
Kylie Rosen '23 scored EC's fifth tally. Additionally,
Sarah Griffith '23 and
Emily Selbert '20 each contributed one assist.
The Purple and Gold controlled the contest from the start, needing approximately three-and-a-half minutes before lighting up the scoreboard. A pass from Aloi on the right side of the arc found Kempf wide open in front of the cage for the game's opening score. Before the first quarter ended, Aloi tapped in a feed from Griffith and Rosen potted a pass from Selbert to make the score 3-0 in favor of Elmira.
Kempf and Aloi, who finished Sunday's contest in a two-way tie for first on the team with 16 points apiece, teamed up again to widen the cushion to 4-0 in the 24th minute. In the fourth quarter, Aloi cashed in for Elmira's fifth goal on a penalty corner with a tough-angled shot along the end line.
