Men's Tennis Falls to Scranton in Non-Conference Home Match

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- In its second match of the spring season, the Elmira College men's tennis team was defeated by a tough Landmark Conference affiliate, the University of Scranton, by a 9-0 final score at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday.

The Royals, competing in their first match of the spring, were able to take all three doubles matches from the Soaring Eagles. At the third position, sophomore Zackarie Stedge '21 and freshman Torin Nethaway '22 put up a fight against of Christopher Kocon and Adrian Maggiani, taking three games from Scranton's tandem, before falling 8-3.

Stephen Gervase '20 appeared in the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive match and faced Scranton's Tarquin McGurrin, a reigning First-Team All-Landmark Conference honoree. Gervase, a junior from Lebanon, Connecticut, battled McGurrin in EC's closest singles match of the afternoon, 6-2, 6-3. The Royals went on sweep all six singles matches against the Purple and Gold to secure their third straight win of the year.
