PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Visiting Medaille College marched away with a 9-0 league victory over Elmira College men's tennis on Friday evening at the Murray Athletic Center, located in Pine Valley, New York. Medaille, a first-year program out of Buffalo, New York, improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Soaring Eagles fell to 0-4.
Today's match began with doubles action, which saw the Mavericks win all three contests. Elmira's top tandem of
Stephen Gervase '20 and
Ravi Chauma '21 put up a good fight but eventually came up short by a single break of serve, 8-5. Medaille went on to earn 8-1 and 8-3 wins at the second and third positions, respectively.
Singles action proved to be much of the same, as the Mavericks collected wins at all six singles positions. The most competitive matches of the day took place at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
At No. 3,
Jordan Curtis '19 nearly claimed the opening set, but fell short by a break of serve to Medaille's Thomas Greenhalgh, who went on the earn a 6-4, 6-1 win. Fourth singles saw Chauma drop a pair of tightly-contested sets to Albert Morales, 6-2, 6-3.
