Men's Lacrosse Falls to SUNY Oneonta

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team fell to SUNY Oneonta in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at nearby Notre Dame High School by a final score of 23-2.

The visiting Red Dragons concluded the bout with a wide margin in shots on goals (42-to-6), which allowed SUNY Oneonta to distance itself from the Soaring Eagles despite a combined 19 saves by goalies Jacob Mattice '21 and Matt Marchal '19. EC also trailed in the ground ball category but managed to secure 33 in the contest.

Down 3-0, the Soaring Eagles deposited their first goal, as defenseman Austin Spiridilozzi '20 fed attackman Kenny Powell '19 at the 7:57 mark of the opening quarter. Sam Shaw '22 netted his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the second quarter for Elmira's second tally. He converted Elmira's lone man-up chance of the game with 4:39 remaining before halftime.

Unfortunately for the EC men, SUNY Oneonta pitched a shutout in the second half, while finishing on a 10-0 run in the final two quarters.

In addition to his assist, Spiridilozzi hauled in a team-high seven ground balls and caused one turnover. Fellow long poles Jacob Willcox '22 and Cam Brickey '19 each picked up five ground balls, while Brickey led all Soaring Eagles with a pair of caused turnovers. Mattice, who played the first half in goal for EC, made 15 saves with a .536 save percentage.
