ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Mikayla Carfello '22, Stephanie Martin '22, and Rachael Goetz '20 each found the back of the net on Wednesday afternoon, as the Elmira College women's lacrosse team was defeated in Empire 8 Conference action by Hartwick College, 21-4.

Although the Hawks scored the first 12 goals of the first half, the Soaring Eagles closed the period with back-to-back goals from Martin and Goetz in the last 3:10. Martin netted EC's first score unassisted, while midfielder Ronnie Callahan '21 earned an assist on Goetz's goal, which came 12 seconds before the intermission.

Carfello recorded both of Elmira's goals in the second half, marking the freshman's second multi-goal game with the Purple and Gold. However, Hartwick's offense continued to produce, effectively putting the game out of reach with nine more tallies in the second half.

The Soaring Eagles finished the contest with 13 ground balls and 10 draw controls. Goetz, in her first game back in the lineup since the 2019 season opener, paced Elmira with five draw controls. Midfielder Kate Gibson '20 and goalies Kacie Pierce '21 and Krystyna Lilland '21 – who both saw 30 minutes of action between the pipes – each grabbed a team-high two ground balls.
