PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- After winning its first two Empire 8 Conference matches of the season, the Elmira College men's tennis team has suffered back-to-back league losses, as the Soaring Eagles fell to league-leading Houghton College by a 9-0 final score.
The Elmira men deployed just five players this morning, resulting in EC forfeiting points at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, which gave the Highlanders a 2-0 lead before the opening serve. Houghton, which improved to 5-0 in the E8, earned 8-1 and 8-0 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions.
Singles action proved to be much of the same, as the Highlanders secured straight-set wins at spots one through five. The closest match of the five took place at the top spot, as three-time Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week,
Stephen Gervase '20, came up short against Houghton's Louis Garcia 6-4, 6-1.
