HOBOKEN, N.J. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team closed the books on the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon against Stevens Institute of Technology, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 9-0 decision to the Ducks in their Empire 8 Conference and regular-season finale.
Ranked No. 11 in the Northeast in the most recent edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III regional rankings, the Ducks won their fifth consecutive E8 match in shutout fashion. Stevens began the match by taking all three doubles points, although EC's No. 2 tandem of
Jordan Curtis '19 and
Frank Endieveri III '21 and No. 3 duo of
Ravi Chauma '21 and
Curtis Harris '22 were each able to take a game from their feathered foes.
Harris, a rookie netter, then contended with Gabriel Sifuentes at third singles. In a 6-1, 6-2, straight-set loss to Sifuentes, the Odessa, New York, native paced the Soaring Eagles by winning three games. His doubles teammate, Chauma, pushed Eloi Pradier in the opening set of their No. 5 singles match by winning two games, but Pradier prevailed to close out the contest in straight sets, too.
In his final collegiate outing, Curtis battled Stevens' Garrett Kincaid in a 6-1, 6-1, defeat at the fourth singles position, which clinched the match for the host Ducks, who sit second in the Empire 8 standings at 5-1 following Saturday's win.
