CoSIDA Release
AUSTIN, TX. --
Katie Granato '19 of the Elmira College women's ice hockey team added another feather to her cap on Wednesday afternoon, as she was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® At-Large Women's Third Team.
"This honor adds to Katie's impressive list of accolades and was well deserving," said head coach
Tim Crowley. "She was someone that was successful on and off of the ice, which is why she was voted to be one of our leaders by her teammates."
After previously being selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in May, Granato was one of 95 student-athletes to earn All-America status for the Division III At-Large Teams.
The Naperville, Illinois, native joins former teammates,
Sarah Hughson '18 and
Ari Smith '18, as the only members from EC's storied ice hockey program to receive the honor from CoSIDA.
In the classroom, Granato was a member of the Elmira College Nursing Program and graduated with a stellar 3.70 GPA. She was a member of numerous honor societies, including the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. Granato has previously been recognized for her academic achievement with All-Academic Team awards from the UCHC and ECAC West.
On the ice, Granato wrapped up her senior season as a CCM/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) First Team All-American and was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Player of the Year. Granato continued to assert herself as one of the most skilled offensive threats in the nation, as she ranked fourth in the country and led the UCHC with 45 points (26g-19a). The forward ended the year ranked fourth in Division III in points (1.61) and goals (0.63) per game. Granato was crucial to Elmira clinching a second consecutive UCHC championship, posting three points across two tournament games to help EC bring home the Pat Thompson Trophy. For her efforts, Granato was also named the EC Athlete of the Year by the Department of Athletics.
