ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener on Monday evening, as the Soaring Eagles fell to the visiting Wolves of Keuka College by a final score of 15-3 at nearby Notre Dame High School.
The Soaring Eagles (0-2) struggled to contain Keuka's (1-0) attack on a damp night in the Southern Tier. The Wolves' offensive charge was led by the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Rookie of the Year, Connor Cupp, who finished with six goals and two assists.
On the defensive side of the field for the Purple and Gold,
Austin Spiridilozzi '20 and
Cam Brickey '20 each finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. In goal,
Jacob Mattice '21 tallied 24 saves while playing the full 60 minutes.
Elmira's offense was led by rookie talent
Sam Crary '23. The Newburyport, Massachusetts, native scored two goals and assisted on EC's other marker. Crary potted both of Elmira's first-quarter goals, while
John Broyles '20 scored his first goal of the season on a man-up situation in the second quarter.
Isaac Gottheil '22 rounded out EC's point-producers with an assist on Crary's game-opening goal.
