COLONIE, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's field hockey team dropped an Empire 8 conference contest in overtime against Sage, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. EC goalkeeper MeganRae Burke '24 made 10 saves in net for the Purple & Gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Defense was the early theme for both sides in the contest as Sage tallied both shots in the opening quarter of action. The Gators would take one penalty corner as it would be denied defensively by the Purple & Gold.
EC turned things around in the second quarter as the Soaring Eagles delivered a pair of shots. Felicity Brockhuizen '22 looked to put EC onto the scoreboard with an early scoring opportunity as her shot just 23 seconds into play would be denied by the Gators.
Following a scoreless first half, the Soaring Eagles continued their momentum in the third quarter by putting four shots on frame. Brockhuizen would be responsible for a pair of Elmira's shots, while Candice Sabatino '24 and Victoria Davis '24 added the other two for the Purple & Gold.
Burke would come up huge for EC in the fourth quarter as she would be peppered with eight shots and stop each one for the Soaring Eagles. Sage would take its momentum into overtime as Alyssa Fitzgerald delivered the game-winning tally just 31 seconds into play to secure a 1-0 win for the Gators.

Elmira returns home to face Nazareth for an Empire 8 conference matchup on Wednesday, October 20 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Soaring Eagles then hit the road for a non-conference matchup against Medaille on Sunday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m.
