PINE VALLEY, NY – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team opened up the home schedule with a 5-4 victory over the Lakers from Oswego State on Friday evening. In honor of Hockey Night in Elmira Night, the Soaring Eagles used a 3-0 outburst in the opening period before the Lakers responded back with three of their own in the second. Jake Russo '23 gave momentum back to the Purple & Gold as EC took a 4-3 lead headed into the final intermission. After Oswego notched a goal in the 3
rd,
Nicholas Domitrovic '24 put the game away with three minutes remaining, the game-winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles and Lakers played scoreless hockey through the first seven minutes of play before
Jordan Gonzalez '24 scored the first goal of the season inside the Murray Athletic Center in front of a raucous EC crowd. Just thirty seconds later, it was Baliey Krawczyk '24 who scored on assists from
Daniel Dimon '24 and
Mathieu Gervais '23 to extend the Purple & Gold lead to 2-0.
As play continued, a standstill in the offense took pursuit until senior captain
Adam Eby '22 scored, unassisted, to extend the Elmira lead to 3-0; one they would hold headed into the second period of play.
The Lakers owned the second period of play, scoring three unanswered goals to tie the game at 3-3 in the 8
th, 13
th, and 17
th minutes of play. It wasn't until the clock read 3.5 seconds that Russo scored on assists from
Shawn Kennedy '24 and Dimon that gave the Soaring Eagles the lead back at 4-3.
In the third, the first eight minutes of play remained scoreless until Alex DiCarlo found the back of the twine for the Lakers to tie the game at 4-4. With just three minutes remaining in the game,
Nicholas Domitrovic '24 sealed the deal for the Soaring Eagles on a goal to give EC the 5-4 lead and the eventual win.
On the night,
Chris Janzen '21 notched 31 saves in net, increasing his early-season total to 47.
