AURORA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's soccer team got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon, beating host Wells College 5-1. After three straight 0-1 losses, the Purple & Gold got themselves a big non-conference win as they head into an important three-game stretch against Empire 8 conference opponents. Lutho Mlunguza '23 was the star man of the day for the Soaring Eagles, finishing with a goal and two assists. Kodel Frontin '25 got the first goal of his career on the assist from Mlunguza, while Anthony Esce Jr. '22 scored the other, it was his first of the year and the second of his career.  Moustapha Camara '23 and Aiden Burns '22 grabbed the final two goals for EC. Gavin Wise '22 contributed two assists in the match.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 5, Wells 1
LOCATION: Aurora, N.Y.
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-5, 1-2 E8), Wells (1-10, 0-3 UEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mlunguza got the scoring started in the 28th minute off a beautiful ball from Wise. Mark Brado Jr. '22 won the Soaring Eagles a free-kick just outside the right side of the penalty box and Wise sent the kick in towards the front post where Mlunguza headed past the goalkeeper.

Eight minutes into the second half, Frontin pushed the score to 2-0 with his first career goal. Frontin delivered a pass towards the left corner flag to Mlunguza and continued his run into the middle of the penalty area. Mlunguza attacked down the end line and returned the ball to Frontin, who buried it in the back of the net. Six minutes later, Mlunguza attacked the left side of the box again and this time supplied Esce with a great pass leading to another Elmira goal.

The Express would respond with a goal of their own in the 62nd minute by Justin Butler to cut the lead to two goals. But just 33 seconds later, EC extended it back to three with an unassisted goal from Camara. Camara picked up the ball inside the right side of the 18-yard box and took two touches before slotting it past the keeper.

The final goal of the game came in the 80th minute when a loose ball bounced around and landed in front of Burns. He would smash it into the back of the net for the Purple & Gold's 5th goal.
