Elmira Downs Buffalo State 5-1 on Military Appreciation Night

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team defeated the visiting Bengals from Buffalo State on Saturday evening 5-1. On Military Appreciation Night, the Soaring Eagles donned their limited edition Armed Forces uniform, and skated to the win in front of a packed Murray Athletic Center. Christian Abrams '25 paced Elmira on the offensive end, as the freshman scored both his first and second career goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bengals clawed their way into the scoring column at the 17:11 mark in the opening period as Jared Figueroa scored on assists from Andrew Logar and Nikita Kozyrev to put Buffalo State ahead 1-0.
 
Out of the intermission break, Chance Gorman '24 would put Elmira into the scoring column as the sophomore scored unassisted just 3:37 into the second period. With the score tied at 1-1, Elmira wasted little time taking the lead as Christian Abrams '25 scored the first goal of his career on assists from Bailey Krawczyk '24 and Nathan Young '25 with 14:13 remaining in the frame.
 
The Soaring Eagles quickly went for two goals nearing the end of the second period as Amedeo Mastrangeli '24 scored on assists from Jake Russo '23 & Adam Eby '21 to increase the lead to 3-1. Just 1:20 later, is was Abrams, once again, who scored on assists from Jared Smith '18 and Gorman to give the Soaring Eagles some cushion room at 4-1.
 
In the third, the scoring was limited until 3:04 remaining in the contest as Krawczyk scored to give Elmira a 5-1 lead, one that would hold, on assists from Smith & Gorman.
 
Chris Janzen '21 finished the game with 28 saves in net while Bengal keeper Emil Norrman finished the contest with 34 saves and five goals allowed.
 
UP NEXT:
Elmira will be back in action next Friday when they host Johnson & Wales before returning to the ice on Saturday to take on UMass Boston. Next weekend serves as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, where bringing a canned good to the game will receive a Booster Club pass for the night.
