CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's wrestling program competed at the New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championships on Saturday as Darius Green '24 and Mason Cardinale '25 notched multiple victories for the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Green would record a third-place finish in a competitive heavyweight division after finishing 4-1 with his lone loss coming against a former All-American in Richard Knapp from Brockport. Green received All-State accolades after placing third and improved his overall record to 9-1 on the season.

Green opened his tournament with a pin against Keaton Renfrew from Alfred State at the 1:09 mark to advance to the quarterfinals. He would notch a 9-0 major decision victory over Mi-Andre Hughes from RIT before dropping a 17-1 tech fall decision against Knapp in the semi-finals. He concluded his tournament with victories against Nicolas Galka (Ithaca) and James Dunagan (Merchant Marine).

Cardinale battled through the consolation bracket for the Purple & Gold after dropping his opening match wrestling at 125 pounds. He responded in the third round of consolation bouts with a major decision victory (13-3) against Brendon Tanner from Alfred State.

Cardinale would outlast DeAonte Hutchinson from Jamestown Community College by notching a 7-6 decision to advance to the next round before seeing his tournament come to an end via a pin by Aiden Prunoske from RIT.

Blake O'Brien '24 and Hollis Berry '25 competed at 141 and 165 pounds, respectively, for the Soaring Eagles. O'Brien and Berry each appeared in a pair of bouts for Elmira before seeing their championship hopes dashed with 0-2 starts.
