Soaring Eagles Compete At Blue Jay Classic On Saturday

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. – The Elmira College men's wrestling program competed at the Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College on Saturday as Darius Green '24 recorded a fourth-place finish wrestling in the heavyweight division for the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Green would notch a fourth-place finish in another competitive heavyweight division after finishing 4-2 on the day. Green advanced to the semifinals after delivering a pair of victories via decision and would face Keystone's, Caleb Burkhart. Burkart handed Green his first loss of the day with a pin at the 3:16 mark.

Wrestling in the consolation semifinals, Green advanced to the third-place match following a 3-1 decision against Brady Elswick from Roanoke. Green would face Sean McCurdy from Wilkes after McCurdy dropped his semifinal bout. McCurdy secured third with a 9-5 decision over Green.

Hollis Berry '25 opened his day with a pair of victories while wrestling at 165 pounds for the Purple & Gold. After receiving a bye to start the tournament, Berry would pin Justin Santiago from Keystone just 50 seconds into the bout to advance to the quarterfinals.

Berry dropped a 6-0 decision in his quarterfinal bout against Andrew McDougal from Roanoke and would move into the consolation bracket where he faced Elijah Morder from Keystone. Morder would be victorious over Berry via a pin at the 41-second mark of the bout.

Mason Cardinale '25 would fall in his first match wrestling at 125 pounds via a pin against Ethan Liptzin from Elizabethtown. A bye would send Cardinale into the consolation second round where he would face Nicholas Bauer from Wilkes.

The bout between Cardinale and Bauer lasted over five minutes as Bauer would come out victorious with a pin at the 5:44 mark.
