HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Rochester Institute of Technology broke out the bats on Friday night in a neutral-site contest against the Elmira College baseball team, as the Tigers beat the Soaring Eagles by a 19-3 final score.
RIT (1-0) outhit Elmira (0-3), 23-to-7, and used a nine-run fourth inning to take a commanding lead. The Soaring Eagles also committed a trio of errors, while the Tigers were spotless on the defensive side of the ball.
EC did make the most out of the seven hits it recorded. Four of them went for extra bases, including doubles from
Angus Adams '22 and
Luke Frontale '22.
James Delaney '22, who tied an NCAA Division III record with six walks in the first game against Houghton on Monday, was finally able to utilize his lumber against RIT. The outfielder from Newburgh, New York, finished 2-for-4 with a triple and his first collegiate home run.
Colin McLaughlin '22 (1-for-3) and
Joe Morrone '22 (1-for-4) also had hits for Elmira. Delaney, McLaughlin, and Adams were each credited with one RBI.
Pitching by committee, six Soaring Eagles appeared on the mound.
Kyle Tubbs '22 struck out a game-high five batters in only 2.0 innings of work, but the junior righty allowed six runs and received the loss.
Alex Crysler '21 and
Jack Finnerty '23 each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, with Finnerty fanning two of the four batters he faced.
