ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team (0-1) fell in its season-opening match to Nazareth College (1-0) by a 9-0 final score. It was Elmira's first contest since November 2, 2019.
The Golden Flyers set the tone early in the first half by outshooting the Soaring Eagles, 19-1. Nazareth finished the contest with a 27-3 advantage in shots, including a 19-2 lead in shots on goal.
Nazareth's pressure in the first half led to seven goals in the opening 45 minutes. Elmira's defense settled into the second half of play and held Naz to eight shots, two of which resulted in goals.
Cassidy Buchman '22 got the start in goal for the Soaring Eagles. She played the entire 90 minutes and finished with 10 saves.
