HOW IT HAPPENED:
It looked as though it may be a high scoring affair as both teams found goals within the first 17 minutes of the match. Houghton got on the board in the 12th minute on just their second shot of the game when Moriah Steffen scored off an assist from Sarah Potocki.
The Soaring Eagles would also score on their second shot of the game. Elfring fired a shot at the Highlander goalkeeper and the ball rebounded to the foot of Cornell inside the penalty area. Cornell placed her shot to the near side corner and though the keeper was able to get a hand on it, the ball crossed the line for a EC goal.
For the next 93 minutes, the Purple & Gold defense stood strong despite taking on a barrage of shots from Houghton. The biggest stand came shortly into the second half when the Highlanders were awarded a penalty shot. Winston would come up with a massive save, diving to her left to knock the ball out for a corner kick, keeping Elmira level with the hosts.
