PINE VALLEY, N.Y. –
Kari Jensen '23 and
Kylie Rosen '23 both scored for the Elmira College field hockey program as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime against Sage in an Empire 8 Conference matchup on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira needed just 22 seconds into the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead against the visiting Gators as Jensen found the loose ball in front of the Sage goalkeeper and poked it into the back of the net. The score was Jensen's first of her career for the Purple & Gold while Rosen was credited with the assist.
The Soaring Eagles looked to add to their lead in the opening half but would be unable to find the back of the net against the Gators. Elmira would go into halftime holding a 13-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.
Sage would score the equalizer to make it 1-1 just over five minutes into the third quarter of action as Alyssa Fitzgerald found the top left corner of the goal for the Gators. The Soaring Eagles would respond just over six minutes later as Rosen took a pass from
Sarah Griffith '23 to give Elmira a 2-1 lead late in the third quarter.
Fitzgerald would add her second goal of the contest at the 54:47 mark to knot the score 2-2 and would complete the hat trick for the Gators with the eventual game-winning goal just 1:30 into overtime. The Soaring Eagles finished the contest with a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-6 edge in penalty corners.
MeganRae Burke '24 recorded eight saves in goal for the Soaring Eagles, while
Jenna Ellis '24 tallied five shots on goal for Elmira. Burke closes the season for the Purple & Gold with 183 saves overall, which is good for fifth all-time in a single season in program history. Rosen finished with a game-high seven shots on frame for the Soaring Eagles while adding her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
