Soaring Eagles Finish Road Schedule With Win Over Castleton

CASTLETON, VT. – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team defeated the Spartans from Castleton on Saturday afternoon, leading Rutland, Vermont with a 1-0 victory. Holley Riva '23 scored the lone goal for the Soaring Eagles at the midway point in the third period on assists from Katie Manning '25 and Mary McCafferty '22.
With the win, the Soaring Eagles finish the season 10-0-0 in true road games, extending the streak to 16 games dating back to February 17, 2020.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Offense was held to a minimum in the opening period of play, as Leonie Kuehberger '25 made just four saves in the opening period, the same for Spartan keeper Kirsten Dicicco.

The final two period of play saw Kuehberger notch an additional six saves, as she finished the game with a total of 10 while increasing her season save percentage to .953.

In the third period, the Soaring Eagles were able to score an even-strength goal at the 10:44 mark as Riva scored on assists from Manning & McCafferty. From there, the Soaring Eagles were able to fend off Castleton on the defensive end, leaving Spartan Arena with a 1-0 victory.

Elmira returns home next weekend to wrap up the regular season when it hosts Norwich and New England College. Puck drop on Friday against the Cadets is set for 6:00 PM.
