ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program hosted its final dual matchup of the season at home on Wednesday night as the Soaring Eagles dropped a hard-fought 23-21 decision against Lock Haven University inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite opening the match facing a 10-0 deficit, the Soaring Eagles responded at 123 pounds with
Merci Jessop '25 squaring off against Lock Haven's Mackenzie DelVecchio. Jessop electrified the crowd that packed inside Speidel Gymnasium with a pin of DelVecchio at the 1:06 mark of the first period.
Lock Haven added to its lead on the night at 136 pounds as Madison Matta recorded a pin over Elmira's
Tiante Murray '25 at the 20-second mark of the first period to give the Bald Eagles a 20-5 edge.
The bout that would ultimately decide the match between EC and Lock Haven would be at 155 pounds with
Skylah Chakouian '25 facing Jessica Johnson. Neither Chakouian nor Johnson would be able to tally a point early in the bout until Johnson recorded a pair of points with just over a minute left in the first period.
Chakouian battled for the Purple & Gold until the final buzzer sounded at the six-minute mark with Johnson winning via an 11-2 decision. The point earned by Chakouian along with a pair of forfeit victories for EC at 170 and 191 pounds would not be enough as Lock Haven secured the 23-21 win.
Leslie Monterrosa '24,
Hazel Dahlquist '25, and
Tayana Labady '25 each recorded victories on the night for Elmira via forfeit decisions. Both sides would forfeit at 101 pounds on the night.
