Bortnick Nets Two As Women's Soccer Cruises Past Hilbert 4-0

ELMA, N.Y. --  The Elmira College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 road win over Hilbert College on Wednesday afternoon. Rachel Bortnick '25 netted two goals for the Soaring Eagles while also picking up an assist in the match. Sarah Wagner '24 scored her first collegiate goal while teammate Piper Andrews '26 contributed the other goal for EC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira took an early lead nine minutes into the game when Bortnick found Andrews to make it 1-0. It was Andrews' fifth goal of the season and fourth in the past five games for the Soaring Eagles.

The Purple & Gold would hold onto the one goal lead for the remainder of the half before exploding for three goals over a nine minute span of play. In the 58th minute Wagner grabbed her first collegiate goal, assisted by Faith Ingber '26 to make it 2-0 EC. Just under two minutes later, Bortnick would strike for her first goal on an assist from Wagner. In the 67th Bortnick banged away her second for a final score of 4-0.

The Soaring Eagles out shot the Hawks 21 to 11 and had seven corners to Hilbert's four in the match. Nevaeh Winston '25 and Miranda Waterman '25 were able to keep a clean sheet for Elmira in goal.

EC is back in action with a conference matchup at Nazareth College on Saturday, October 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
