ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball team battled the visiting Colonels from Curry College on Sunday afternoon in the Elmira Tip-Off Tournament Championship, as nine tie games and eight lead changes would make for a great battle, as the Soaring Eagles eventually fell 75-64. After trailing by one at the break, the Soaring Eagles would be outscored by 11 in the second as the Colonels picked up the victory.
Nevaeh Winston '25 and Laura Bogota '25 would score 15 points a piece to lead the Soaring Eagles, while Winston collected a game-best 13 rebounds to lead Elmira. Her efforts earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team, along with Lauren Dunn (Curry), Sophie Hilbrunner (Curry), Jayda Allen (Delhi), and Keeley Baker (Penn College).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles would hold a 16-14 lead after the first quarter in part to its high-tempo defense, along with 5-of-15 shooting from the floor compared to a 3-of-20 clip for the Colonels. Bogota would lead the EC offense, scoring seven, while an 8-0 advantage for the Soaring Eagles in the paint helped the Purple & Gold offense control the first frame.
- In the second, Curry would outscore Elmira 21-18, using a 4-of-8 effort from beyond the arc to help the visitors carry a 1-point lead into the break. For the first half, Winston led the way with ten points and six rebounds, while Bogota followed closely with nine points. Additionally, Mallory Welty '26 would have a solid first half, forcing three steals to go along with her seven rebounds and four points.
- With the game tied at 39-39 at the midway point in the third quarter, the Colonels would use a 13-4 run to increase its lead to nine. From there, the Soaring Eagles would battle, eventually going on a 12-2 run from the end of the third to the beginning of the fourth quarter to take a 55-54 lead with 7:41 remaining following a made layup from Taylor Jung '25. After a made three-pointer from Alleney Klunk '24 put EC back in front wit 6:58 remaining, the Colonels would regain the lead and not look back as they went on to finish the game with an 18-6 run.
