HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the first match of the day, the Soaring Eagles would be battle-tested by the Mounties, as each team scored at least 20 points in each of the four sets on the afternoon.
  • After the Mounties got out to an 18-15 lead in the opening frame as part of a 7-0 run, the Soaring Eagles would surge back for five straight of its own to regain the lead, as Boucher tallied back-to-back kills during the run. After Mt. Aloysius regained the lead and looked to close the door in the opener (24-22), Elmira would score four straight to conclude the set, capped by a kill from Makenna Clark '25.
  • The second set would prove to be much like the first, as with the frame tied at 22-22 a piece, the Soaring Eagles would score three of the final four points, using a service ace from Morgan Richardson '25, and a pair of errors from the opposition to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Mounties would take the third set 25-23 scoring seven of the final eight points to erase the Soaring Eagle lead to push the match to a fourth set.
  • In the final frame, Elmira would put the match to an end following a kill from Gabriella Rustine '26, before Rustine concluded the opener with a block to send Elmira away with a 3-1 victory.
  • For the match, to go along with Boucher's ten kills and Curkendall's 29 set assists, Boucher (13), Curkendall (14), and Deanna Hathway '24 (10) would record double-digit digs for Elmira. Additionally, Cassidy Ryan '24 and Clark would each record eight kills
  • Against Alfred State, the opposition would finish with a .316 hitting percentage, eclipsing .300 in two of the three frames.
  • Elmira would get five kills from Caroline Barr '25, four from Boucher, and three from Richardson. Gabriela Rodriguez '25 would tally seven digs, while Curkendall recorded 16 set assists.
