Three-Point Shooting Not Enough as Soaring Eagles Drop Friday Matchup to Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's basketball shot one of its best games of the season from beyond the arc on Friday, but were unable to collect the win against the host from Hartwick College, who would go on to win 80-73. Elmira, who has now put together its two best shooting nights from deep this season in a row, was unable to pick up the win as the Hawks used a 44-34 advantage in the second half.

Marc Anthony Artuz '24 would pace Elmira on the offensive end after scoring a career-high 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Riley Spencer '26 and Tyler Cardello '26 would round out the Elmira leaders, combining for 35 points as Spencer led with 20. 

The Soaring Eagles would hold the 34-31 lead at the break after converting on 7-of-14 shots from deep. Elmira's first half lead would grow to as many as nine points with 1:52 remaining on a made three-pointer from Artuz. Over the final ninety seconds, the Hawks would outscore EC by six, heading into the locker room down just three. 

From there, it would take the hosts just 3:30 to tie the game at 40-40 before taking the lead for good with 15:03 remaining (44-42). For the game, Elmira would lead in bench points (26-17), while the Hawks led in points from turnovers, second chance, and fastbreak points. The Hawks held the 34-20 advantage in the paint following 19 offensive rebounds, paced by Francis Cooper & Bobby Thomas who each had four.
