Soaring Eagles Improve Winning Streak to Five With Straight-Sets Win Over Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.  – The Elmira College men's volleyball improved its win streak to five games in the early part of the season following a straight-sets win over the hosts from Elizabethtown College. The Soaring Eagles, who were battle-tested in each of the three sets, saw its largest set victory coming in the second set after a 25-20 win.

The Purple & Gold were paced by Oscar Munoz Trinidad '23 and Alberto Mauricio '25, who each recorded 14 kills in the match, while Mauricio added ten digs to his ledger. Max Cohen '25 anchored the Soaring Eagles in the assists category, recording 32 for the match.

The Soaring Eagles would come out and battle in the first set, with the frame tied at 17-17 in the latter stages. Hitting .175% as a team in the set, the Soaring Eagles were led by Alberto Mauricio '25 with eight kills, who alone matched the Elizabethtown team total in the first set. The Purple & Gold had nine attacking errors in the set compared to four for E-Town, but out-attacked its opponent 40-29 in the first. 

In the second, Elmira would go on to record 13 kills compared to a match-low four for the Blue Jays as it cruised to a 25-20 victory in the frame. 

In the third, the Soaring Eagles would break a 17-17 tie after rallying to score six of the next seven points with five kills, two each from Mauricio & Munoz Trinidad and one from Edwin Sosa '25. The Purple & Gold would put the match away following a set error for the Blue Jays to take the set 25-22 and the match, 3-0.

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles will take a week and a half off before returning home for its first match inside Speidel Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 15 when squaring off against the Violets of NYU in its first UVC matchup of the season.
