PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College Cheer program officially opened its competition season on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles hosted the Upstate Collegiate Championships at the Murray Athletic Center. The Soaring Eagles claimed a pair of first-place trophies along with being named Cheer Grand Champions.

Elmira would bring home the first-place trophy following its routine in the Contemporary division while also placing second in Hip-Hop. Gannon University claimed the first-place trophy in Hip-Hop while also being named the Dance Grand Champions.

In the Cheer portion of the competition, it would be Gannon that brought home the first-place title following its Game Day routine. Both Keuka College and Alfred University battled for the top spot in the All-Girl Intermediate division with the Wolves from Keuka taking home first-place honors.

The Soaring Eagles and Golden Knights battled for the Small Coed Advanced division trophy with both programs delivering near-perfect performances during their routines. The Purple & Gold would be victorious as EC garnered the first-place Small Coed Advanced trophy along with taking home the Cheer Grand Championship.

There was also a performance from the Empire Royals Cheerleading Program as the Sapphires delivered a routine in the Mini Level I Exhibition division.

The competition season rolls along for the Soaring Eagles as Elmira is back in action on Saturday, March 18 at the I Love NY Championships in Syracuse, New York. Elmira then travels to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Road to Daytona Championships on Saturday, March 25.
