HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Mother Nature finally allowed the Elmira College baseball program to finish its three-game series against Houghton University on Tuesday afternoon as the Highlanders would complete the sweep of the head-to-head battle against the Soaring Eagles with a 6-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Highlanders would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back run-scoring singles against Elmira starter
David Kruis '23. Houghton followed with a three-run third inning as each of the runs would score with two outs in the frame. A two-run double increased Houghton's lead to 4-0 before another double would plate one run to make it 5-0.
Elmira manufactured its lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning as
Kade Cochran '26 opened the frame with a walk and would later come around to score following a double off the bat of
Chris Jones '25 to make it 5-1. The highlanders would escape any further damage in the frame by retiring each of the next three batters for Elmira.
Houghton closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on the corners. The Highlanders would break up a double-play opportunity for the Soaring Eagles to plate a runner from third to increase their advantage to 6-1.
Kruis would take the loss on the mound for the Soaring Eagles after allowing five runs to score off six hits through three innings of work.

Ray Mineo '22, and
Matthew Schultz '26 each recorded scoreless relief outings for the Purple & Gold. Six different Elmira batters recorded a hit in the contest with
Jourdan Plaisted '21 notching a pair of hits. Jones and
Brett Warden '25 each recorded a double for Elmira on the afternoon.
