AURORA, N.Y. – A two-run advantage slipped away from the Elmira College baseball program in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Wells College Express rallied for a 5-4 victory in 10 innings against the Soaring Eagles on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wells would take advantage of a wild pitch and a walk with the bases loaded as the Express gained a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The 2-0 lead for the Express would hold until the Soaring Eagles rallied in the top of the fourth inning.
The fourth inning opened with back-to-back-to-back singles from
Matteo Salvati '25,
Brett Warden '25, and
Bryan Jimenez '25. Elmira plated its first run of the contest following a sacrifice fly from
Jacob Parker '25 that trimmed the deficit to 2-1. A throwing error by the catcher on a double steal allowed Warden to score and knot things 2-2. Another error by the Express allowed Elmira to take a 3-2 advantage as Jimenez scored on the play.
The 3-2 lead for the Soaring Eagles remained until the Purple & Gold manufactured a run in the top of the ninth inning.
Jarod Signorelli '23 opened the frame with a walk and would later advance to third base following an error by the catcher. He would then score on a passed ball to extend Elmira's lead to 4-2.
Wells would load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning before the Soaring Eagles traded a run for a 6-4-3 double play. The Express would later knot the score 4-4 following an error by the Soaring Eagles.
The Express would strike out the side in order in the top of the 10th inning before getting the eventual game-winning run into scoring position with one out in the bottom of the frame. A double to right-center allowed the winning run to score and secure the 5-4 victory for the Express.
Ray Mineo '22 suffered a second-straight loss in extra innings for Elmira, while four Soaring Eagles (
Logan Pizzullo '25,
Steve Leopold '22,
Kade Cochran '26, and
Justin Hyde '25) combined to hold the Express scoreless through six innings out of the bullpen.

The Soaring Eagles will return home on Thursday as EC closes its three-game series against Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher following a postponement due to inclement weather last weekend. First pitch of the single nine-inning contest between the Soaring Eagles and Cardinals is scheduled for 3:30 P.M.
