Soaring Eagles Drop Series Finale Against St. John Fisher

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – Almost a week after the series' first two games were played, the Elmira College baseball program wrapped up its Empire 8 Conference series on Thursday against St. John Fisher as the Cardinals would tally a 12-4 victory to remain undefeated in league action this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cardinals didn't wait long to get onto the scoreboard against the Soaring Eagles as four runs touched home plate in the top of the first inning. Elmira would trim the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Chris Jones '25 and Matteo Salvati '25 recorded a pair of one-out singles for the Purple & Gold before Jourdan Plaisted '21 made it 4-2 with a two-out double into center field.
 
St. John Fisher added five more runs in the top of the second inning to extend the lead to 9-2 after tallying five hits and sending eight batters to the plate. Brett Warden provided a run for the Soaring Eagles in the bottom of the third inning with a single to left field that allowed Jones to score.
 
Following a pair of runs from the Cardinals in the top of the sixth inning that extended the lead to 12-3, the Soaring Eagles closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jarod Signorelli '23 scored for Elmira to trim the deficit to 12-4 as Mason Ryan '22 grounded into a double play with a pair of runners on base.
 
Matthew Schultz '26 worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Soaring Eagles after St. John Fisher plated nine runs through the first two innings, while Kade Cochran '26 closed the game on the mound with three scoreless innings for the Purple & Gold. Justin Hyde '25 yielded one run through three innings of work out of the bullpen for EC.

 
UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles travel to Keuka on Saturday and Sunday for the final E8 series of the season. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. first pitch.
