Soaring Eagles Battle to 0-0 Draw With SUNY Delhi on Wednesday Afternoon

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie on Tuesday evening at Campus Field versus the visiting Broncos from SUNY Delhi. In a game which featured little offense but a handful of back-and-forth physicality, Elmira was able to outshoot the Broncos 7-3 on net, while Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27 made his collegiate debut, making three saves in net for the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the game, but the Soaring Eagles were ab;e to outshoot the Broncos 8-4 in the first half, while Gandia made his first collegiate save. 
  • In the second half, shots picked up for SUNY Delhi, who outshot the Soaring Eagles 10-8, while physicality and control of the ball within the middle of the field by both squads proceeded. 
  • The first shot on net in the second frame came from the Broncos just over four minutes into the half, but Gandia was able to create the save and keep the game knotted before facing another shot at the 58:30 mark, his final save of the evening.
  • At the 60 minute mark, the Soaring Eagles had a chance on a header from Kerfalla Toure '26, but the ball would deflect off the woodwork and keep the game scoreless.
  • The Soaring Eagles were able to create an additional pair of shots on net in the final five minutes of play, but neither would find the twine. 
  • Jonathan Walch would finish the contest with seven saves in net for the Broncos. 

UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold return to the pitch on Saturday when heading to SUNY Geneseo to take on the Knights in its final non-conference matchup with the opposition before they enter the Empire 8 next season. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
