Men’s Volleyball Drops Third Match of the Weekend vs. Kean

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's volleyball team could not continue its strong start to the Elmira College invitational on Saturday afternoon, falling to Kean College by a final of 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira started the match by dropping the first set, 25-23. Edwin Sosa '25 and Jordan Peiser '24 had five and four kills for the Soaring Eagles, respectively, accounting for 10 out of Elmira's 13 kills in the first set. The Soaring Eagles and the Cougars traded the first six points of the set and continued to play close until Kean scored the final three points, coming back from a 23-22 deficit to take the opening set.
  • Peiser tallied another five kills in the second set, leading the team in that category during the set. Sosa added another four kills, while Luke Jata '27, Dylan Vargas '27, and Gabriel Staron '27 also tallied kills. The Soaring Eagles held the lead for most of the set, keeping an advantage over the Cougars until the final few points, allowing the final four points of the set and dropping the set 25-23 after holding a 23-21 lead.
  • Peiser once again led the Soaring Eagles in kills in the third set, notching eight kills and bringing his total to 17 during the match. Despite out-hitting the Cougars 14-13 in the third set, the Soaring Eagles had a hitting percentage of .250 compared to .320 for Kean, and EC dropped the final set of the match 25-22.
  • Peiser and Sosa had double-digit kills, posting 17 and 11, respectively. Peiser led the Soaring Eagles with a .448 hitting percentage while recording the only service ace for the Soaring Eagles during the match. Vargas led the team with two blocks, while Sosa and Jata both had one.

The Soaring Eagles travel to Misericordia University, where they will participate in the Misericordia Invitational, playing their first matches on Friday, February 2, against Rutgers-Newark at 4:00 p.m. and Nichols College at 6:00 p.m.
