Men’s Wrestling Records Two Podium Finishes at NYS Collegiate Open

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's wrestling program had a pair of podium finishers on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles competed at the New York State Collegiate Open Championships on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Selvin Maldonado '25 placed sixth for the Soaring Eagles in the 141-pound open division as he advanced to the fifth-place match. Maldonado dropped his quarterfinal bout before receiving a bye to the consolation semifinals.
  • Maldonado would come up short in his consolation semifinal bout as he moved to the fifth-place bout. There would be no contest in the bout, as Maldonado finished sixth.
  • Kaiden Ellis '28 placed fifth for Elmira in the 149-pound freshman/sophomore division as he advanced to the fifth-place bout. Ellis opened his tournament with three victories to advance to the semifinals.
  • Ellis recorded a tech fall followed by a pin to advance to the quarterfinals before adding his second consecutive pin of the day. Ellis would drop his semifinal match to move into the consolation semifinals. He would come up short in his next bout before winning his fifth-place match via a no-contest.
  • Hollis Berry '25 recorded a win for the Soaring Eagles in the 165-pound open division, while Victor Hyland '28 notched a victory competing in the 149-pound freshman/sophomore division for the Purple & Gold.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles return to action on December 3 as they travel to Pitt-Bradford for a dual meet beginning at 7:00 p.m.
