JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 2, Nazareth 1
LOCATION: Rochester, New York | Golden Flyer Stadium
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-8-4, 5-4-2 Empire 8), Nazareth (10-4-4, 6-1-3 Empire 8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Through the first 13 minutes of play, the Soaring Eagles and Golden Flyers would each produce shots, with Nazareth holding a 5-1 advantage in the category in the early-going. With neither team able to find the back of the net, the Golden Flyers would be awarded a corner kick at the 21:12 mark, and scored the game-opening goal just under 30 seconds later as Ryan Fitzgerald found a goal on an assist from Drew Decker. The tandem paired up for what was the eventual game-winning goal against the Soaring Eagles just one week ago in Nazareth's 4-2 victory at Campus Field.
- Following the Golden Flyer goal, Elmira would begin to see an uptick in its offense, out-shooting the opposition 6-2 for the remainder of the half. For the first half, Elmira forced Nazareth into six saves, while the Golden Flyers' only shot on goal for the frame found the back of the net.
- In the second half, it would take nearly 20 minutes for Elmira to draw equal, as Corporan was awarded a penalty kick which he converted as the equalizer knotted the contest at 1-1. The play was drawn up after Elmira worked the ball into the offensive zone, and a shot deflected off the upper limb of Zach Scott.
- Off the ensuing kickoff, Nazareth would immediately take the ball down into its offensive zone and find a pair of chances, none of which were converted. Off the goal kick from Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27, the Soaring Eagles would begin to establish strong possession, and after being awarded a corner kick which saw the ball go off the hands of the Nazareth goaltender, the rebound was buried home by Corporan after being served in by Horacio Vicioso '26.
- For the contest, Elmira would outshoot Nazareth 8-4 on goal, while Cruz Gandia finished with three saves.
