Maldonado and Berry Record Wins for Elmira at Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. – The Elmira College men's wrestling program traveled to Elizabethtown College on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles competed at the Blue Jay Classic. Elmira placed 12th in the team standings, while Wilkes University claimed the overall team title with 194 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Selvin Maldonado '25 wrestled at 149 pounds for Elmira and opened his day with a pin of Braden Scott from Elizabethtown in a time of 2:59.
  • Maldonado would come up short in his second-round match, dropping a 17-11 decision against David Ensminger from Cortland. He then dropped a 10-8 decision against Christian Martinez from Elizabethtown in the consolation round.
  • Hollis Berry '25 wrestled at 165 pounds for Elmira and opened his tournament against Jack Pickersgill from Cortland. Berry would drop an 11-6 decision to move into the consolation bracket.
  • Berry recorded a 12-1 major decision over Johnny Mauer from Elizabethtown in his first consolation match. The day would end for Berry in the second round of consolation matches via a 13-11 decision against Josh Howard from Penn College.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will return to action in 2025 when they participate in the Empire 8 Tri-Meet, hosted by Utica University on January 4 at a time to be determined.
