ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Elmira women's basketball could not overcome a slow start to its game on Saturday afternoon against Nazareth University and dropped its second game of the weekend by a final of 82-47.
D'Asia Jones '25 paced the squad, scoring 13 points during the game while going 6-10 from the field. Mia Welty '26 was the only other Soaring Eagle to finish in double-figures, tallying 11 points and going 3-5 from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles struggled to open the game, letting up eight points to the Golden Flyers before netting their own basket. The Purple & Gold finally got on the board thanks to an Alleney Klunk '24 layup, making the score 8-2 2:25 into the game. Elmira let in six more Nazareth points before responding, falling into a 14-2 deficit before Welty drained one from distance with 4:28 left in the opening quarter. Jones chipped in with a layup later in the quarter, but Elmira trailed 21-10 at the end of the first.
- Jones got Elmira going in the second quarter with a layup just over a minute into the period. Welty drilled a shot from distance on the next possession, cutting Nazareth's lead to ten 1:38 into the second. After that point, the Golden Flyers went on a 7-2 run before a pair of layups on consecutive possessions by Jones and Laura Bogota '25 put an end to the run. Klunk drained a pair of free throws, and Jones knocked down another layup, but Nazareth maintained a 41-25 advantage going into halftime.
- Nazareth opened the third on an 11-2 run, bringing its lead to 53-27 with 5:44 left to play in the quarter. After that point, Elmira answered with a six-point unanswered streak, including four made free throws by Klunk and a Jones layup. The Golden Flyers got a layup to end the streak with 2:32 remaining, but Welty answered with a three-pointer. However, Nazareth still led by 19, and after scoring the final six points of the half, the hosts took a 61-36 lead into the final frame.
- Sophia Ward '27 got Elmira started with a layup 36 seconds into the fourth. However, Elmira did not score again until the 6:24 mark with another Ward layup. Welty added a layup, and Jones drained one from beyond the arc, giving Elmira seven unanswered points. However, it proved to be too little too late as Nazareth ended the game on a 12-2 run and Elmira fell by a final of 82-47.
- Jones, Welty, and Ward each shot better than 50% from the field, making 13 out of Elmira's 17 field goals during the game.
- The Soaring Eagles got 30 of their 47 points from the bench this game.
