ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
Darius Green '24 secured a top-eight finish competing at heavyweight for the Elmira College men's wrestling program on the opening day of the NCAA DIII Mideast Regional Tournament hosted by RIT.
It will be the second consecutive season that the Soaring Eagles will have a wrestler place in the top eight at the regional tournament as Green will face Ithaca's Jeremy Mazzella in the Consolation Semifinals on Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a bye in the opening round of the championship bracket, Green would record a 7-6 victory via decision against Gavin Thompson from Pitt-Bradford. Green squared off against Jake Ahmad from Ursinus in the quarterfinals as Ahmad would come away with a 4-1 victory.
- Green moved to the consolation quarterfinals and would be matched up against Rocco Arduini from Keystone. Green secured the pin at the 6:29 mark of the bout to keep his tournament alive and advance to the consolation semifinals.
- Competing at 141 pounds for the Purple & Gold, Selvin Maldonado '25 recorded a pair of victories as he would come up just short of securing a top-eight finish at regionals. Maldonado opened the day with a 19-4 tech fall victory over Quinton Frampton from Keystone.
- Maldonado would be matched up against Xavier Pena from Centenary in the second round as Pena recorded a pin at the 3:27 mark of the bout to send Maldonado into the consolation bracket. After receiving a bye, Maldonado notched an 18-4 major decision victory to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. The tournament run would come to an end for Maldonado following a fall for Culley Bellino from Cortland.
- Blake O'Brien 24, Hollis Berry '25, Garrett Roskelly '27, Bryan Stafford '26, Casey Cooper '25, and Kahajen Smith '25 also competed for the Soaring Eagles with Roskelly, Cooper, and Smith all making their debuts at the regional tournament.

Wrestling is scheduled to resume at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday with Championship Semifinal and Consolation Round Four bouts. The Championship, Third-Place, Fifth-Place, and Seventh-Place bouts are scheduled to begin around 2:30 P.M.
