JAMESTOWN, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles traveled to Jamestown to take part in the Jamestown Community College Open Tournament on Sunday morning. Selvin Maldonado '25 finished fifth overall in the 141 lbs. weight class.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Maldonado's day began with a bye in the first round. His second-round contest, a 12-5 decision, sent him into the final four for his weight class. After another win in the quarterfinals, Maldonado's run came to end following a 8-0 major decision loss in the semifinals, resulting in his fifth-place finish.
Blake O'Brien '24 wrestled at 133 lbs. and came away with a loss in the second round following a first-round bye.
Patrick Stauring '27 won his first-round matchup before a second-round exit ended his day in the 149 lbs. class. The sophomore's first tournament win came via pin at 2:19.
Victor Hyland '28 also wrestled at 149 lbs., but fell to a 5-3 decision in the first round.
Hollis Berry '25 wrestled at 157 lbs., finishing 5th in his class. Berry lost his first-round matchup before rallying for five straight matchup wins before dropping an 8-7 decision in the consolation semifinals.
Casey Cooper '25 and Kahajen Smith '25 each wrestled at 174 lbs. for the Soaring Eagles. Cooper dropped his matchup by way of a 21-9 major decision while Smith lost via a 9-2 decision.

EC is back home on Monday, Feb. 3 for its penultimate home dual of the year against the Golden Eagles of Brockport. Wrestling begins at 6:00 PM.
