Nash, Luther Score as Soaring Eagles Defeat Sage at Campus Field on Wednesday Afternoon

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey team returned to Campus Field on Wednesday evening and came away with a 2–1 victory over Russell Sage College in Empire 8 action, 2-1. With the win, the Soaring Eagles earned its second conference victory of the season, which is its most in a season since 2011, where the team also notched a pair of E8 victories. In the victory, the Soaring Eagles saw goals from Talia Nash '28 (7:33) and Nicole Luther '28 (45:44).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira got on the board early in the first quarter when Nash buried the game's opening goal at the 7:33 mark, capitalizing off sustained offensive pressure and a handful of early penalty corners. The Soaring Eagles dominated possession throughout the first half, outshooting Sage 10–2 and earning seven corners over the first two quarters.
  • After holding a 1–0 lead through halftime, Elmira doubled its advantage midway through the fourth period as Luther found the back of the cage at 45:44 to give EC a crucial insurance goal. 
  • The Gators pushed late and managed to cut the deficit to 2–1 in the final minute when Skyler Van Wormer scored off an assist from Kari Gage following a penalty corner, but Elmira's defense held firm to secure the win.
  • Goalkeeper Angelina Caban '26 made seven saves in the victory, including five in the final frame as Sage mounted its comeback attempt.
  • Elmira finished the contest with a 17–12 advantage in total shots and an 8–3 edge in penalty corners.
