Women's Ice Hockey Blanks Seahawks in Dominating Fashion

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's ice hockey team continued their strong start to the season with their second victory over Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon. A late offensive burst during the third period saw the Soaring Eagles dominate the Seahawks, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Elmira was aggressive from the jump, outshooting Salve 14 to five. MK Boyle '26 opened the scoring in the tenth minute on the assist from Reagan Lynch '29. 
  • The Soaring Eagles remained in control for the remainder of the first period, keeping the Seahawks off the board.
  • The middle frame was a scoreless one but saw Elmira maintaining their momentum and keeping the pressure on. Penalties and power-play chances peppered the period, but neither side was able to find the back of the net.
  • The third period saw the Soaring Eagles burst open the scoring with five unanswered goals. Within the first two minutes of play, Alayna Toole '26 scored unassisted to elevate Elmira 2-0. Amber Meluzio '29 followed suit with an unassisted goal for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Boyle found the back of the net on the power-play, assisted by Gabby Doughtery '26 and Anna Lugge '27. In another power-play opportunity, Maura O'Keeffe '29 scored her first goal of the season to see the Soaring Eagles race ahead. Boyle capped the scoring with an unassisted goal and a hat-trick on the evening to secure a 6-0 victory.
  • Sara Sevcikova '28 stood tall in net for the second consecutive day, stopping 15 shots. Sevcikova was a brick wall in the third period when the Seahawks had multiple power-play opportunities, recording nine saves.
  • On power-play opportunities, Elmira converted 2 of 5 chances while limiting Salve to zero conversions. 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will face the SUNY Potsdam Bears inside the Murray Athletic Center on Friday, November 7. The match-up is set to take place at 3:00 PM.
