ASTON, Pa. – The Elmira College men's ice hockey team traveled to Neumann University for their first matchup of the Thanksgiving break. Goals from
Seth Ferguson,
Jake Terra, and
Lucas Stevenson saw Elmira with three goals in the match but was ultimately not enough as they dropped the match 4-3.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In an offensively contested match, the Knights were first to strike off the stick of Max Donohoe at 5:39 in the first period. Less than a minute later, they added to their lead with a goal from Lucas Culhane to take an early 2-0 advantage over Elmira. The Knights were seen outshooting the Soaring Eagles 13 to five in the first period to leave EC trailing 2-0 at the first break.
In the second period, Elmira quickly got to work with
Jake Terra and
Cam Lowe working together to find
Seth Ferguson and cut the deficit to 2-1. At 13:06,
Jake Terra netted the equalizer with Justine Pare and
Tyler Schwindt picking up the assists. It was not long before the Knights came charging back with a pair of their own goals in the second period. Elmira was falling behind 4-2 at the end of the second period.
In the final period of play, the Soaring Eagles were looking to cut the Knights lead and outshot their opponent ten to seven. At 2:12,
Owen Halloran sent a pass to
Lucas Stevenson to cut at the deficit and make the score 4-3. The Soaring Eagles worked relentlessly, seeing goaltender
Brody Haynes record seven saves alone in the third period. Ultimately, it was not enough and the Soaring Eagles were unable to find another equalizer and dropped the contest 4-3.
