PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - The Elmira men's ice hockey team hosted UCHC opponent SUNY Brockport in their first of two matchups Friday night. The Soaring Eagles lost 6-3 after a promising start to the game.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Owen Halloran scored the first goal of the game off a rebound to put Elmira up just over seven minutes in. As the Soaring Eagles continued to apply pressure, the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles managed to level the game on a two-on-one. Five minutes later, they pulled ahead on another odd-man rush. As the period was about to expire, Stephen McDonald found the back of the net with three seconds left to level the game for Elmira.
Elmira pressed to re-take the lead in the second period, but could not find it while outshooting SUNY Brockport 16-9.
SUNY Brockport grabbed a 3-2 lead two minutes into the third off a Nicholas Maria goal. The Soaring Eagles looked to respond quickly but the SUNY Brockport netminder stood tall. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to two on a snap shot from Josh Grund eight minutes in. With Elmira's net empty, SUNY Brockport found an insurance goal with three minutes left. Halloran netted his second of the game just seconds later to pull the Soaring Eagles back within two. SUNY Brockport scored another empty netter with twelve seconds left to close out a 6-3 win.
