Neer Scores Twice in Home Opener for Women’s Lacrosse

ELMIRA, N.Y. –  The Elmira College women's lacrosse program hosted its inaugural game on the new turf at Campus Field, as the Soaring Eagles dropped an 8-4 decision against the Hilbert College Hawks. Saturday's game was the first at home for Elmira since hosting Utica on April 24, 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Hilbert opened the scoring with 8:11 left in the first quarter and would push its lead to 2-0 with 7:12 left on the clock in the opening frame.
  • The Hawks tallied three goals in the second quarter to extend the lead to 5-0 before the Soaring Eagles rallied for a pair of goals in the final 31 seconds.
  • Elmira's Kayla Neer scored the first goal of the season for the Soaring Eagles with 31 seconds left in the quarter, while Caitlin Ehlenfield scored with five seconds left to make it 5-2 at the end of the first half.
  • Hilbert scored two goals in the third quarter to put the Hawks up 7-2 over the Soaring Eagles.
  • Kelsey Stewart scored a goal while a player up for the Purple & Gold with 10:05 left in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit to 7-3. The Hawks answered with a goal while down a player with nine minutes left to make it 8-3.
  • The Soaring Eagles recorded the final goal of the contest as Neer potted her second goal of the contest while a player up on the field with 2:07 remaining to cut the deficit to 8-4. Stewart was credited with the assist on Neer's goal.
  • Elmira goalkeeper Camila Hidalgo finished the contest with eight saves, while Hilbert's Olivia Cleary made 11 saves. Stewart paced Elmira with five shots on goal, while Neer and Ehlenfield both finished with four.
  • Mallory Schultz and Stewart both finished the contest with five groundballs each for EC, while Stewart added two caused turnovers and three draw controls.
