HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – A grand slam from
Hannah Colwill helped spark a 12-4 victory for the Elmira College softball program on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles opened the Empire 8 portion of their schedule against SUNY Brockport at the Holding Point Recreation Complex. The second game was halted in the top of the third inning due to field conditions after steady rain in the area.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Acting as the visiting team, Elmira opened the scoring in the top of the first following a wild pitch, which allowed Brianna Ramstine to score from third and make it 1-0.
- Brockport answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to grab a 2-1 advantage.
- Katie Distefano knotted the game 2-2 with a single in the third inning as Hannah Colwill touched home. Distefano also notched her 100th career hit as a member of the Soaring Eagles.
- The Golden Eagles rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, 4-2.
- Elmira's offense would break out in the sixth inning as Asia Curkendall singled to right field to knot the score 4-4. Maryann Sobel followed with the go-ahead single on a bunt that allowed Curkendall to score.
- Colwill launched a grand slam later in the inning to put the Purple & Gold ahead 9-4.
- Ramstine delivered a home run of her own in the seventh inning to cap the scoring, as her two-run shot to left field made it 12-4.
- Five different Soaring Eagles finished the contest with two hits, while Sobel earned her third win of the season after going the distance, allowing four runs off six hits to go along with five strikeouts.

The Soaring Eagles will host Hilbert College on Wednesday at the Holding Point Recreation Complex in a non-conference matchup. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
