Men’s Volleyball Season Ends on Saturday following a 3-0 Loss at Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. – In a winner-take-all match on Saturday to determine the final spot in the upcoming United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Tournament, the Elmira College Soaring Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision against the Hobart College Statesmen inside Bristol Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jordan Peiser paced the Soaring Eagles on Saturday, finishing with 14 kills to go along with seven digs and one solo block. Luke Jata finished with six kills for EC, while first-year Ethan Davenport added three kills. 
  • Peiser closes the season with 987 career kills and moves up to fifth all-time in program history for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Max Cohen tallied 20 assists in the contest and closes the season ranked third all-time at Elmira with 2,255 career assists.
  • In the first set, Elmira tried to rally after trailing 22-15, as Cohen notched a kill followed by a service ace from Paten Buckwalter to trim the gap to 22-17.
  • The Soaring Eagles would then get back-to-back kills from Peiser and Cohen to make it 23-19 before Hobart recorded a pair of kills to secure the 25-19 win.
  • Trailing 24-17 in the second set, the Soaring Eagles went on a 3-0 run to extend the set as a kill from Dylan Vargas made it 24-20. The Statesmen would end the run with a kill to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Hobart controlled the momentum in the third set from start to finish, as the Statesmen used a 6-0 run to jump out to an 8-2 advantage. The Soaring Eagles used a 3-0 run to trim the deficit to 13-8 but would see Hobart counter with a 4-0 run to gain a 17-8 advantage.
  • With the win, the Statemen secured the sixth and final playoff spot over the Soaring Eagles as they finished the regular season with a 3-4 record in the UVC.
