Men’s Soccer Drops Tight Contest Late at SUNY Poly

Utica, N.Y. - The Elmira College men's soccer team hit the road for an Empire 8 matchup against the Wildcats of SUNY Poly. The Soaring Eagles led for most of the game, but ultimately fell after two late goals from the Wildcats.

LEADERS
Adam Tufton netted his third goal of the season, while Ryan Irizarry Padilla recorded his sixth assist of the year, moving into second in the conference in the category.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles started strong, recording the first two shots of the game, but neither found the frame. SUNY Poly's first shot was stopped by Arturo Ruiz Martin in the 10th minute. Shortly after, Tufton drove a low shot past the Wildcats' goalkeeper and into the back of the net, with Irizarry Padilla picking up the assist. Elmira defended well through the remainder of the half to carry its lead into the break.

The Wildcats came out strong in the second half, forcing Ruiz Martin into a pair of saves within the opening two minutes. SUNY Poly gradually took control of possession and increased the pressure on the EC defense. The Wildcats found the equalizer in the 80th minute before scoring again just a minute later to take the lead. The Soaring Eagles were unable to find an equalizer in the closing moments, falling 2-1.
