Elmira, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer team hosted the first-place Golden Flyers of Nazareth University at Campus Field on Saturday afternoon. In a hard-fought Empire 8 matchup, the Soaring Eagles handed Nazareth its first Empire 8 defeat of the season, coming away with a 2-1 victory.

Adam Tufton scored a brace for EC, while
Dorian Samson and
Daniel Brown each recorded an assist. Protecting the net for the Soaring Eagles,
Arturo Ruiz Martin recorded four saves in the victory.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles and Golden Flyers battled through a scoreless first half, with both teams creating opportunities but neither able to find the back of the net. Elmira recorded two shots in the opening 45 minutes, while Ruiz Martin made two saves to keep Nazareth off the scoreboard.
Elmira broke through early in the second half when Tufton found the back of the net in the 49th minute off an assist from Samson to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Nazareth answered just over five minutes later, as Tyler Warmington scored in the 54th minute to even the match at 1-1. The Soaring Eagles continued to battle for the go-ahead goal, and Tufton delivered once again in the 83rd minute. Tufton found the back of the net for the second time, this time off an assist from Brown, putting EC back in front, 2-1. Elmira's defense held strong in the final minutes, securing the victory over the first-place Golden Flyers.
UP NEXT
Elmira will return to action on October 7 when the Soaring Eagles travel to SUNY Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
